How do I create a quote from an existing invoice

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community, michael-green. I'll be sharing how Quote and Invoice feature in QuickBooks Online works. I'll also ensure you can achieve your goal by performing the alternative steps below.

A Quote is an entry that helps you start discussing details with your customer for a proposal for work you plan to do. While, an invoice is a list of goods sent or services provided, with a statement that needs to get paid in the future. With this, the option to create a quote from a previous invoice is currently unavailable.

For now, you can manually create a quote by copying the details from a previous invoice. This allows you to record a quote that matches the information from the existing invoice. Once done, you can open this article to see the detailed steps on how you can make attractive and professional-looking quotes in QuickBooks: Customise invoices, quotes, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

After that, you have the option to link the existing invoice to a newly created quote in QuickBooks.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Sales menu on the left panel and choose All sales section.
  2. Find the invoice and open it to click the Edit button.
  3. Click the arrow icon beside the Balance due and a quote entry appear.
  4. Click Add and It looks like you’ve started working on this invoice. Should we add only the quote item lines, or create a new invoice for this quote? message shows, then select Create a new invoice to link the transactions.
  5. Choose Save.

Lastly, I'm adding this article to see details on how the Sales page gives you a great at-a-glance view of the status of your sales transactions, like open and paid invoices: View sales transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Please feel free to add a comment below if you have other concerns about managing your sales transactions in QBO. I'm always ready to help. Take care, and have a great day, michael-green.

How do I create a quote from an existing invoice

@ChristieAnn  You response was completely useless to me and failed to address the question - telling me things I already knew about how to create a quote - which seemed to be straight from Quickbooks on-line help.

Your response should have been :

The option to create a quote from an existing or previous invoice is currently unavailable

Quickbooks currently does not have the feature to create a quote from an existing invoice

NOT:

Thanks for your feedback, michael-green.

While creating a quote from a previous invoice is not available yet in QuickBooks Online, we appreciate if you can send your valuable feedback. You can do that by going to Gear icon and select Feedback so it will be reviewed by our Product Developers. Most of the new features or product enhancement we release every month are based on the feedback we received from our customers.

For additional information about our current enhancements and innovations, feel free to visit our site at https://quickbooks.intuit.com/au/product-updates/.

Feel free to post again if you have any other questions, michael-green. Have a nice day!

How do I create a quote from an existing invoice

@IntuitAika Once again instead of providing a canned answer...... can you please advise if this enhancement / feature request is already in the Quickbooks development backlog i.e. a Product Owner has reviewed it and assigned it to a sprint and/or developer .... or a future release.

This will save me wasting my time by requesting something that someone else has already requested and is planned for development.

Sorry @IntuitAika but your language is unclear.  Was this feature request already on your list prior to me making this post ?  Or only after you added it on my behalf ?

Apologies michael-green, however only the Product Developers has the visibility of the list of feature request submitted by our customers. Thus, I can't confirm if this feature request has been submitted before or not. I've also send the same feature request so that gives us two counts for the same feedback. The more people give their feedback, the more it gets added to our priority list.

Hi michael-green, for any product feedback or enhancement request raised in Community, we immediately raise it to our Product Developers team. That way we'll be able to review on it and identify which features are most requested by our customers. For new features to be added on the future releases of QuickBooks Online, we have an internal communication about this which will be shared to Customer Support team.
