Hi there, efg123.
Currently, searching for the Purchase Description of Products and Services is unavailable. The search function can help you easily find any transactions recorded in QuickBooks Online.
Here's an article for more information about the search function: Search for transactions.
I'll make sure to forward your concern to our product engineers for a feature request.
If you have any additional questions or other concerns, feel free to leave a comment on this thread. Thanks.
Thanks for your prompt response, however I'll have to be more specific; I was referring to (and trying to imply) the search function within Products and Services, at the upper-left, the rectangular box labelled "Find products and services". Your answer refers to the magnifying glass at top-right.
For my use of QBO, what I've pointed out is more significant than the one you thought I was describing. If you can forward this concern to your product engineers for a feature request I'd be most appreciative.
Thanks efg, I'll make sure to pass this along.
Hi 1234josh,
The feedback on the lack of ability to search using the Purchase description has certainly been passed on and we hope to see it implemented in a future update. While I am unable to advise on a time frame, you can in the meantime search by name, SKU or sales description. Additionally, as a workaround you can use the Ctrl+F search function of your browser to search by purchase description.
If you have further feedback for product improvement ideas and any product concerns to help us improve your experience while using QuickBooks Online, please feel free to go to the Settings icon (top right in QuickBooks) and click Feedback as we welcome all observations.

Any update on when Purchase Description will be included in search results. People who don't remember product codes search by keywords, and those keywords are more likely to be in the Description field.
Hi ussmex,
Our product team has registered the need by customers for this product feature to be added. Whilst I don't have any specific update of when it may be included I an assure you that an announcement will be made once when it is implemented!
Thanks,
-Steven
I have the same issue and I really don't want to change 400 inventory items again. Why can you search them in invoices, but not purchase orders?
Hello, meridian1.
The ability to use Purchase Description when searching for transactions in QuickBooks Online (QBO) is a good idea. However, this will still need to be evaluated by our developers before they consider including this option in the future release.
You'll want to run purchase order reports like Open Purchase Order List, Open Purchase Order Detail or Other Purchase Detail reports to get the information you need.
To run a purchase order report:

How is this still not functioning yet?!?!?!?!
5 years and the product team cant add this feature that was clearly needed... Very disappointing.
