Currently, QBO Self-Employed users are unable to invite/connect an accountant or QBO Partner. This makes no sense as even the smallest of businesses need to complete tax returns and accountants will want to be able to do more than view PDF reports sent to them by the business owner. Partners/Accountants need to be able to extract data, review and adjust transactions and provide support and training to their clients. Without an accountant's ability to review and extract the data they need, all activity on the file is useless if they can't use it to prepare a BAS or tax return and it needs to be recreated in another system. This really should have been included when Self-Employed was first introduced and its embarrassing that it still hasn't been fixed.
Hi Shannon-PlatinumPartner,
Quickbooks Self-Employed is a different type of product when compared to Quickbooks Online (Simple Start, Essentials & Plus)
Self-Employed is used mainly by micro-businesses who have very basic needs such as banking, invoicing and reporting.
The feature I believe you are referring to is exclusive to the Quickbooks Online range of products where you can invite an accountant to log in, view and make changes to the file.
I hope this clarifies it for you.
Kristian.
Hi Kristian,
Thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately, this hasn't helped clarify anything. Micro business or not, a Self-Employed user still needs to lodge a tax-return and many, if not most of them will do it through a tax agent. There needs to be a way for advisors to access and review data properly in order to prepare a return or the data becomes useless for tax purposes. A PDF report is not sufficient.
Additionally, we're fielding a growing number of requests for training and ongoing support of this product as it grows in popularity and if we can't login to their file, we can't help them.
We can't recommend a product that we can't use.
Hi Shannon-PlatinumPartner,
I understand that all businesses no matter what size need to follow the rules and lodge tax-returns.
Like you said, some businesses will require a tax agent to do this on their behalf.
You are still able to provide a tax agent with all the relevant information they need to complete this process in Self-Employed by sending them PDF reports.
I agree with you that this process is time-consuming and annoying but this is why Quickbooks Online exists.
The extra money that you pay for Quickbooks Online will allow you to get that time back and give you more freedom when it comes to accounting by inviting your Accountant to your file.
In terms of training and ongoing support for the product, I am happy to share a few things with you that can help you out in this area.
Kristian.
Hi Kristian,
I'm a QBO Partner (Platinum level). Partners need access to our clients files to provide them with training and support.
This shouldn't be a feature your customers need to pay extra for - it's a base necessity. Every single version of Xero and MYOB comes with advisor access.
Why are you trying to keep us from doing our job?
Hi Shannon-PlatinumPartner,
Thank you for providing your feedback from the lens of a ProAdvisor. Our Product Team for QuickBooks Self-Employed would definitely appreciate the insights and consider the ability to connect an accountant to a QuickBooks Self-Employed user in future releases.
I definitely see where you're coming from, especially in regards to supporting your clients and that all businesses have tax obligations, but in the current offerings, QuickBooks Online Simple Start would be the best solution in this situation.
I will pass this feedback along to our QuickBooks Self-Employed and QuickBooks Online Accountant Product Teams to illustrate that there is a demand for this feature in future releases.
Bonny
