I can't have Tax code for chart of accounts

Are you trying to assign default GST code for an account set up in your Chart of accounts? If so, let's make sure you have set up your GST center in QuickBooks Online. Here's how to check:

1. Click on the GST tab.
2. If you see Get Started button, finish the set up for your GST center first.
3. Select the accounting method and your GST lodgement frequency.
4. Select other tax obligations the ATO assigned for your business.
5. Click on Save and finish.

Once the GST center is set up, we can go back to your chart of accounts and assign GST code on the account you wanted to assign GST. Here's how:

1. Click on the Transactions tab.
2. Click on Chart of accounts.
3. Locate account and click on the drop down arrow and select Edit.
4. Locate the Default GST code and select the tax code.
5. Click on Save.
