Hi,
I've just started using QB payroll in this financial year so very new to it all. I've found the following link about setting up the payroll chart of accounts but wanted to double check if this is how I should set them up. https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-au/set-up-payroll/quickbooks-payroll-chart-of-account...
If I set up the chart of accounts how it is listed on the link will I then be able to just match my transactions in my banking? I want to be able to match them the same way that BAS & IAS payments show up on banking feeds. Is this possible?
Hi REN9,
Welcome to Quickbooks Community.
Upon initial set up of your Payroll account, we need to follow the steps provided on that link and make sure that those created accounts will be used and selected when you create your payroll. After you finish setting up Chart of Accounts in the Business Settings, make sure that you click on Import Accounts on top right so the set up will automatically flow in your QBO Chart of Accounts. Once completed, you will be able to match bank transactions to your payroll expenses.
Hope this answers your questions. Feel free to reach out again if you have any other questions.
I've set up the chart of accounts in payroll but it still doesn't show up as "match" in my banking. Also, I've noticed when I click on "Pay Run" it has an error on my two payruns under journal exported. Am I missing a step?
Hi REN9,
Thanks for getting back to us. We'd highly suggest you contacting our live channels, they can perform screensharing to see what went wrong with your set up. You may reach out to QuickBooks Online Support via Chat or Phone Support Hotline on this link: https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_AU/contact.
I originally reached out to QB online support via chat but they didn't help at all.
I've clicked on the pay runs and there's an option to "Export to Quickbooks", could this be the issue as I didn't notice this option previously?
Hello REN9,
I'm sorry to hear that the issue was not resolved. The option to Export to Quickbooks will link your payrun to Quickbooks Online. You may check the default accounts in Payroll against the QuickBooks Chart of Accounts account history. You can view the default accounts in Payroll Settings --> Chart of Accounts.
Feel free to reach out again if you have any other questions.
Welcome to the Community, REN9.
Yes, the link you've provided above is correct on how to set up your Chart of Accounts for payroll.
When matching payroll payments it will be based on the default payment account you've set on Payroll Settings. Let me show you how to check.
If you've selected Payroll Clearing as a payment account, you'll need to allocate the bank feed to Payroll Clearing. However, if it is set to a bank account you can match the bank feed to the payroll journal exported to QuickBooks Online after you've finalised your pay run.

Hi.
I am having an issue with the Payroll CoA as I cannot select my default accounts. Nothing was able to be imported from Quickbooks and nothing is able to be selected from the drop down in the default accounts section.
I have spoken to Customer Support and they advised to disconnect from Keypay and re-connect, but it appears that the user cannot fully disconnect from Keypay. You can disable it, but it automatically connects again when you access Employees.
Hi tracynz,
You can import your Chart of Accounts from QuickBooks Online to be used for payroll. It is important to have this set up and allocate a default account for each items. Let me show you how to import your accounts.
If you're seeing Manage Accounts instead of Import Accounts on your Chart of Accounts, you'll need to contact our Customer Care Team to reset your Chart of Accounts. If this has been done, you can try to clear your browser's cache and try to set up your Chart of Accounts again.
For more detailed information, you can check on this article: Set up and configure payroll chart of accounts.
