Why I am unable to add an employee?

Sometimes when adding an employee you may encounter a problem progressing to the next page in the wizard. This is a result of invalid information being entered. Here are the common invalid information. 

  1. Address
  2. Phone number
  3. Special characters

If these things have been checked, confirmed and removed and the issue persists the only option is to enter your own details and once the employee has been added editing the details at that point. If you are still unable to use the correct details at this point you should contact support and speak with a Payroll Expert about having the details amended.

Hi, Im trying to add a new employee and I'm unable to get past the personal details page, I have tried entering in all the details manually but still with no luck.

Hi glenblittle,

 

Thanks for reaching out in the Community! A common reason that the personal details may not be accepted is if the employee's address isn't able to be located (this uses the Google Maps feature which may or may not recognise the address). Try entering in another address such as your own to see if you will be able to continue. You can change this once the employee has been created and added to your books by simply selecting their name and updating their information. 

 

To eliminate an issue with your browser, you can also try clearing the cache to be sure there is no old or invalid data that is restricting you from what you need to do. We'd suggest using Chrome for the best experience with QuickBooks Online, and you can do so by:

 

  1. In Chrome, hold down Ctrl+Shift+Delete and a pop-up will appear on your screen. You can also access this by selecting the Chrome menu (top right corner, three dots in a vertical line) and clicking More Tools, then Clear Browsing Data.
  2. Select the option 'clear cached images' and make sure the other two options are unticked.
  3. Select the time range All Time, then Clear Browsing Data.
  4. Once this is complete, the pop-up will disappear. Please restart your browser and log in once more.

Thanks for reaching out. Are you able to provide a little more information on the issue you are having, e.g. have you added the new hires into the Employee section but cannot see them in Tsheets to create timesheets or are you trying to add new hires into Tsheets directly?

Please verify with your employee that the given ss# is correct. Make sure also that there are no special characters on the data you entered.

Let me guide you on how to add a new employee in QuickBooks Online Payroll. Here's how to:

 

  1. Log in to QuickBooks Online.
  2. Click on the Payroll tab.
  3. Click on the drop down arrow next to Start Employee Self Setup.
  4. Click on Add Employee.
  5. Enter the employee details and complete the set up.

Once done, you'll be able to create pay runs for the added employee. Check this link to learn more about: Set up and process a pay run in QuickBooks Payroll powered by Employment Hero.
