You might need to use the Multicurrency function when connecting a bank account that uses a different currency than your home currency. And these are only available in QuickBooks Online Essentials and Plus.
If you're using the QBO Simple Start version, consider upgrading to QBO Essentials and Plus. Here's how:

Once done upgrading, you can turn on multicurrency and connect your US bank account.
