How can I import a GL from QuickBooks online to quick books desktop

Hello, Russell.

I'll show you how you can import your GL to QuickBooks Desktop.

QuickBooks Online exports the General Ledger report as an Excel file. To import it to QuickBooks Desktop, you'll want to convert the Excel format to an .IIF file. You can look for conversion services online that can do this.

Before importing the IIF file (after converting), I'd recommend making a backup copy of your company file first. Next, switch to single user mode by clicking the File menu, then selecting Switch to Single-user mode

To start the import process:

  1. Go to the File menu, then hover your mouse on Utilities.
  2. Choose Import, then select IIF files
  3. Click the Import IIF button, then browse for the converted IIF file.

You can find more details about importing IIF files here: Export, import, and edit IIF files.

There are other ways to import your data to QuickBooks Desktop, too. You can read this article for more details: Import and export data in QuickBooks Desktop.

Also, the articles I've linked are for the US version. Though, the steps will work for the international (reseller) version for QuickBooks Desktop.

In case you need help with other tasks in QuickBooks Desktop, you can browse our articles from the general support page.

Please let me know if you need more help managing your QuickBooks data. You can also ask any other questions for QuickBooks Desktop.

Utilize a 3rd party migration tool. i.e TP Exporter for Online, TP Importer for Desktop
