How do I get the bank statements imported the Bank CSV is not Recognised by Quickbooks although all steps are taken to make it a valid CSV as per QuickBooks requirements?

CSV file does have the required columns (Date, description, amount), description column does not have any special caracters and the date is as specified and preferred by QuickBooks (dd/mm/yyyy).

Thank you for adhering to the guidelines to create a valid CSV file, Monique. Let's take additional steps to import the file into your QuickBooks account.

First, I'd like to know if you've encountered any error messages during the process. It will help us narrow down the cause of QuickBooks not recognising the CSV file.

Since you're using the 3-column format with the DateDescription, and Amount columns, ensure the payments are negative while deposits are positive. You'll want to upload a handful of transactions first, then review the mapping well so QuickBooks acknowledges them. I'm adding a screenshot for reference below.

If there are currency symbols and commas, modify them after eliminating special characters and using the suggested date format. To do so, highlight the column in your CSV, right-click your mouse, and select Format Cells. If the number category is set to Currency, change it to General to remove the formatting, and try to upload the file again.

Moreover, I suggest checking the account type you're importing to. If it's a subaccount, refer to this article to discover the best way to proceed: Common errors for importing bank transactions using CSV in QuickBooks Online.

Furthermore, consider the following aspects in your file to determine if adjustments are necessary:

  • Eliminate any zeroes (0) from the CSV file, then empty those cells.
  • Erase any numbers present in the Description column.
  • Ensure consistency in date format (dd/mm/yyyy)
  • Some banks include the day of the week in the Date column (for instance, 20/11/2018 TUE). To delete the day of the week, separate the date and day into distinct columns.

If the issue persists, I'd recommend contacting our QuickBooks Online Support Team. They can securely investigate this further and guide you through successful file uploads.
