We have difficulty in importing our customers from an excel file. Error message: no data in file

Hello there, @user42993.

Thank you for posting here in the Community. Let me help you import the data in QuickBooks Online.

Please make sure to select the correct file when importing the data into QuickBooks. If it's the right one, I suggest you start with reviewing the Excel file.

This way, you'll be able to determine if the file you're trying to upload contains any data. Also, to avoid errors, please follow the detailed instructions in this link (scroll down to How to verify the exported file): Import customer or supplier contacts from Outlook, Excel or Gmail.

If the data is available and the error persists, the browser's stored cache may be full. It can cause unusual behavior in QuickBooks, like the error message you get when importing customer information.

We can use a private browser to open your account and see if you can import it successfully. It doesn't use the cache, which stores data that creates browser-related issues.

Use these keyboard shortcuts depending on the browser you're using:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Internet Explorer: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: press Command + Shift +N

If you can upload without any problem, please switch back to the regular browser and clear its cache & historical data. It helps restore the default setup of the browser.

In case private browsing doesn't work, use other supported web engine to get the best and most secure experience with the program.

For additional reference, I've attached a link you can use about importing your lists to QuickBooks Online: Move your lists to QuickBooks Online.

You're always welcome to post any questions you have in this space. I'll be happy to help you some more. Have a good day.
