create a credit note for goods returned to stock

I can make invoices - but the menu does not allow for a credit note - and an invoice with a negative quantity of stock items does not work

create a credit note for goods returned to stock

You can go to the +New icon to generate a credit note for your customers, Les. I'd be happy to walk you through creating one in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Before we proceed, please note that adding a credit note with a negative quantity of stock items is not possible in QuickBooks, as it will result in a negative amount on the system.

Follow these steps to add a credit note:

  1. In your QBO account, click on the +New icon.
  2. Select Credit note, then choose the customer from the Customer dropdown menu.
  3. Enter the credit note details, amount, and date.
  4. Once done, click Save and close.

After creating the credit note, you can apply it to an open invoice. Refer to this article for detailed steps: Create and apply credit notes or delayed credits in QBO.

Additionally, if you need to handle customer credits or overpayments in QuickBooks, you can refer to our article for detailed steps.

If you have any other questions or need a hand with anything else, just let me know. I'm here to help you get the best out of QuickBooks.
