How can I enable the Inventory item category under Product/Services? Currently there's only Non-Stockable items and Services

You can enable this feature through the Account and Settings option, mihai.

Tracking stockable items is available on the Plus version. This feature offers basic quantity-on-hand recording and reporting features. Here's how to enable this one:

  1. Click the Gear icon, then select Account and Settings.
  2. Go to the Sales tab.
  3. Click the edit (pencil) icon on the Products and Services section.
  4. Tick () Show Product/Service column on the sales form, Track quantity and price/rate, and Track stock quantity on hand.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Click Done.

Once you're ready to add stock products, you can follow the steps in Step 2 from this article: Add your stock products.

I'm always around if you still need my help. Enjoy the rest of the day!

Thank you for the quick reply!

I'm using a Trial Company so I suppose this feature is not available. Most likely I'll need to upgrade first.

I don't think you answered the question at all Adrian. The question is about turning on Categories and your answer is about turning on stock tracking. Please redress

I appreciate you for pointing this out, Robman.

I'm here to make sure everything is addressed.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO) South Africa version, there are four item types: stock, non-stock, services, and bundles. We use the stock as an equivalent for inventory.

Since mihai mentioned that he only saw Non-Stockable items and Services, we can try some basic troubleshooting steps to bring back the Stock item on the Products and Service.

Let's start by accessing your account through a private browser or incognito window. This is a good place to start the troubleshoot since this type of browser doesn't store cache.

You can refer to the following keyboard shortcuts below:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

Try adding a stock item to test it. I'll show you the steps below:

  1. Go to the Sales menu and select the Products and services tab.
  2. Click New.
  3. Select Stock.
  4. Enter the necessary information and click Save and Close.

Learn more about adding product and service items to QBO through this article: Add product and service items to QuickBooks Online.

If it works, go back to your original browser and clear the cache to make sure your browser functions more efficiently. Otherwise, you can try other supported browser to help narrow down the cause of this behavior.

You'll want to check out this article about grouping products and services into categories: Group your products and services into different categories.

If you have other questions, please let me know and I'd be happy to address it. Have a good one!
