I am importing inventory. QB is rejecting the cost of sales expense item I have selected. I get an error that says I should use 'Supplies and Materials'. Can anyone help?

'Supplies and Materials' is not on the drop-down list that QB gives me.

Hello there, @userjrice.

You'd want to create an expense account then assign it to your imported inventory. I can guide you in doing so.

  1. Go to the Accounting menu.
  2. Choose the Chart of Accounts tab.
  3. Click the New button.
  4. Select Cost of Sales from the Account Type drop-down.
  5. Pick Supplies and Materials from the Detail Type drop-down.
  6. Enter the name of the account.
  7. Click the Save and Close button.

Now, you can assign it to your inventory when importing it to QuickBooks.
