Why cant i input special characters in the custom fields on an invoice template? the & and / signs create other characters in the field when printing or previewing.

Hello there, @adilam.

You're able to input special characters (i.e. & and /) on your invoice templates' custom fields in QuickBooks Online (QBO). The said signs should be previewed and printed accordingly. Please see the attached file below.

Your default browser may be full of previously accessed pages, thus causing viewing and performance issues. With this, I'd recommend performing some troubleshooting steps. You can first pull up your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account using a private browser (incognito). Here's how:

  • Press Ctrl Shift (Google Chrome)
  • Ctrl Shift (Firefox)
  • Control Option (Safari)

Once signed in, go ahead and preview, then print an invoice. If it works, return to your default browser and clear its cache and cookies. This is to refresh the system and remove older data that causes the system's unusual responses. However, if the issue persists, you can use other supported browsers.

Most previewing and printing issues in QBO is caused by an outdated Adobe Reader/Acrobat. In case you're still experiencing issues when printing special characters, I'd recommend updating or repairing them to the latest version. You can refer to this article for the detailed steps: How to update, repair, or re-install Adobe Reader/Acrobat.

You're able to manage your custom templates in QBO. To do this, kindly refer to this article's Edit custom templates section: Customise sales forms. It also includes steps about personalising your email message.

Additionally, you'll have to pull up a transaction report (i.e. Invoices and Received Payments) from time to time. This is to effectively monitor your sales and income accordingly. Just go to the Who owes you section in the Report menu's Standard tab.

Please let me know if you have other concerns or further inquiries about managing invoices in QBO. I'm just around to help. Take care always.
