At the moment, opening multiple companies in QuickBooks Desktop Pro is unavailable. You can open your companies one at a time.
To open your companies easier, you can go to File then click Open Previous Company. From there, you can select the company you want to open.

Consider to purchase Premier Accountant edition. You may open 2 company files in the same time and screen.
I'm not sure what your IT resources are but we have Quickbooks Pro with 3 licenses at our office, so it's located on 3 separate computers. You could remote desktop into another computer that has Quickbooks installed and work from your PC with 1 company file & have another company file open in remote desktop.

The option to open multiple company files on QuickBooks Desktop Pro is still unavailable. This can only be done with QuickBooks Accountant and QuickBooks Enterprise.

How about you give your users the features they are asking for? Crazy concept I know.
You may open more than one company file at the same screen with a workaround but need an extra cost.
That is what I did. This is the first time that cannot the other company.

Currently, only the QuickBooks Accountant or QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise can open a secondary company file. You can open the second one by any of the following steps:
You'll want to make sure that the QuickBooks Desktop is updated to the latest release. This resolves minimal issues in using the software since you have the latest fixes and patches.
Also, you can run the Verify and Rebuild Data tool in QuickBooks Desktop when you open the company file. This will fix any data-related issues which could be the reason for not being able to open a secondary file.
