deleting sample customers in my file

there are about 9 sample customers that are in create tax return stage.  They are all dummy customers and I can't delete them.  The only option I have when I edit the customer is to "make inactive"...then it tells me ...

This customer cannot be deleted because it has a non-zero balance.

I want a clean client list and not dummy info in there...who can help me?

deleting sample customers in my file

Hi @steveh12,

Thank you for posting here in the Community. I can provide clarification about the customer list in QuickBooks Online.

For now, the option to completely delete the dummy clients is unavailable. Once you create customers, you can only make them inactive, which hides them from lists and menus.

There are two workarounds available depending on what works for the business. Either rename it once you have a real customer or delete your data and start over with new books (only applicable to new accounts within 90 days of signup).

Alternatively, you might want to consider merging profiles. It deletes one profile and moves their existing data into the customer you want to keep. Check out this link for more details: Add and manage customers in QuickBooks Online.

Also, there's a feature you can use to manually re-sort the customer list showing the last name first. I've attached the article you can visit if you want your list in that way in QuickBooks: How to sort the customer list by last name.

Get back to me if you have more questions regarding managing the customer list. I'll be right here to help out. Have a great day.
