How to Change a product item from 'Inventory' to 'non-Inventory'

Hi to all,

QBOL newbie:  Does anyone have a solution for the above.  In the list of products there is a 'Batch' option to 'Make Non-Inventory' but it is not active (light grey).

How to Change a product item from 'Inventory' to 'non-Inventory'

Hi there, @Capstone-33.

I'm here to help you change a product item from Inventory to Non-inventory in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

QuickBooks doesn't have a direct way to change the item type from Inventory to Non-inventory. Instead, you'll have to zero out the quantity and make the inventory item inactive. Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QBO account.
  2. Click the Gear icon, then select Product and Services.
  3. Find the inventory item. Make sure the item has zero quantity.
  4. Select the drop-down arrow beside Edit and select Make inactive.
  5. Click Yes to confirm.
  6. Once done, you can create a new non-inventory item to replace it.

I'm adding this article for more guidance: Change product and service item types in QuickBooks Online.

Just in case you want to run and customize reports to keep track of your inventory, you can check out this article for detailed steps: Use reports to see your sales and stock status.

Come back to this post if you have other concerns or follow-up questions about products and services. I'll be right here to help.
