How to create budget for NPO

I've got the steps to bring over your budgets into QuickBooks Online (QBO), Charles. I'd be glad to navigate you through this process.

Please know that the Budget feature is exclusively available to QuickBooks Online Plus and Advanced users. If you have a different subscription, consider upgrading your plan to access it.

To get started, let's download the budget in an Excel template. QuickBooks will format this template based on your chart of accounts and the months of the financial year. Then, we can create your budget using this template.

  1. Open the budget template in Excel or Google Sheets.
  2. Fill in your monthly budget for each account on the Consolidated sheet.
  3. Avoid adding extra columns or rows. If you require more accounts, please add them to your chart of accounts before downloading the template.
  4. Save your changes once completed.

Once you're set, import your budget back into QuickBooks.

  1. Navigate to Settings, then Budgeting.
  2. Click Import budget.

  3. Select the financial year from the Select time period dropdown.
  4. Choose your  Budget format, then Next.
  5. If you already have it on our template, click Skip and follow the steps to upload your budget
  6. Select Upload budget and then find and open the template.
  7. Click Next, then View budget for review.
  8. Customize the budget title by clicking the Edit icon.
  9. Check and edit amounts in each account as needed.
  10. Click Save or Save and close to finalize your budget.

Additionally, you can run a Budget vs. Actuals report to compare your actual income and expenditures against your projected figures over a specified period.
