Hi. I am battling to set the region and language settings correctly on my mac in order to download my bank statement from Standard Bank in the right format.

Hi there, nixduncan-gmail-.

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community. I'll ensure to share details about setting up language and region in QuickBooks online. Then, how it works to the system.

The supported languages in QBO are English, Chinese, Français, Italiano, and Español. You can set it up by going to the Account and settings. You can select the Advanced tab and you'll see the Language section to change the desired language.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon. Then, select Accounts and settings.
  2. Choose the Advanced tab and go to the Language section.
  3. Select the pencil icon to edit. Then, choose the desired language from the drop-down.
  4. Hit Save and Done.

You also have the option to change the language in QuickBooks Online using the language settings of the browser. Please click this article to view steps on how to perform the process: Change language in QuickBooks Online.

However, if you're unable to perform the steps shared above, I recommend logging in to your QuickBooks account using a private browser. This is to rule out the possibility of a webpage issue, and private browsing doesn't store local files or cache.

Use these keyboard shortcuts based on the browser you're using.

  • For Firefox or Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl + Shift + P.
  • For Chrome, press Ctrl + Shift + N.
  • For Safari, hold down Command + Shift + N.

If it works in incognito, I recommend clearing the cache of your regular browser. This removes the history or log of sites so you can start with a clean slate. You can check this article to see the steps: Clear cache and cookies to fix issues when using QuickBooks Online.

If the steps above didn't work, use another supported browser as alternatives.

On the other hand, the account’s region is set by the region’s website in which the subscription was made. That said, there isn't an integrated way that'll let you change the country of your subscription. You'll need to create a new QuickBooks account by choosing your country. Before that, I suggest canceling first the current QuickBooks account to avoid double billing.

Here's how to cancel:

  1. Open your QuickBooks account to a web browser.
  2. Sign in to QuickBooks Online as an admin user.
  3. Select the Gear icon ⚙ and choose Account and settings.
  4. Go to the Billing & Subscription tab.
  5. From the QuickBooks section, select Cancel subscription or Cancel online. If you're canceling a trial, select Cancel trial.
  6. Follow the onscreen steps.

For additional information, you can click this article: Cancel your QuickBooks Online subscription or trial.

Once done, please follow the steps below on how to subscribe to a new account with the correct country or region.

  1. Open this link:
  2. Choose your country.
  3. Select whether to subscribe now or use a 30-day free trial and the type of subscription you will be using.
  4. Click Add another company. Then, enter your existing Intuit login credentials.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up the account.
