Hurricane Ian we got hit! Please I would like opinions on changing from desktop to online?

Due to Hurricane Ian our business is closed. Once power is restored we are thinking about letting our sales team work from home while we rebuild. We have desktop Enterprise Manufacturing right now. I asked Intuit sales and was told it would go smooth but they also shared they have heard some people lose information, such as customers and their information. If anyone has done this I would love to hear about your experience. Thank you!

Sorry to hear that the typhoon has forced the closure of your company, @nancyl. Hope all of your staff are safe.

I'm here to give you some advice on switching from QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise to QuickBooks Online so you get back into the business in no time.

To prevent problems along the way, you must first establish your desktop. Make sure to install the recent version of your QBSE. This enables you to have access to the latest features and fixes on your software.

Then, check that the company file isn't too huge to export. Press Ctrl+1 on your keyboard to verify your Total Target is less than 750,000.

Lastly, I suggest printing a copy of your Sales Tax Liability report so you can add adjusting entries after transferring your data. Here's how:

  1. Open the Reports menu, then choose Vendors & Payables. Hit Sales Tax Liability.
  2. Go to the Dates▼ dropdown, and hit All.
  3. Navigate to the Print▼ dropdown, click on Save as PDF.
  4. Select the folder you like to save it in, name the file, and hit Save.

Kindly follow steps 2 to 3 from this module to successfully switch your account to the online version: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

I'll also include this article to know more about what to expect when moving data from QBES to QBO.

We're here to back you up 24/7 if you need any more help with handling data or QuickBooks in general. Take the best care always!

@nancyl

I am sorry for your current situation and wish you a speedy recovery. Some pointers to consider:

1. Move your company files immediately to QB Desktop hosting provider to reduce your downtime. You'll have more time to consider your options whether to stick with QB Desktop or concert to QB Online.

2. Open your company file and press the f2 key. How big are your Total Target?

3. If you run a manufacturing company, you will need an additional app with assembly features to integrate with QB Online.
