Link Payment Out to Customer Credit

Hiya,

On my Banking, how do I link up a payment out to refund a customer for their over payment, to the credit of the over payment on their account? (Paid more than the invoice balance)

On Desktop I would post to Accounts Receivable and the customer name and the credit would be on their account to allocate, but with Online I cant find a way to link the two up and I dont have Accounts Receivable option.

Thank you

Link Payment Out to Customer Credit

Hi there, @charissak85!

You can create a check for the overpayment or credit of your customer so you can match it to your downloaded transaction. I'm here to help you accomplish this.

  1. Go to the Plus icon.
  2. Under Vendors, select Check.
  3. Select your customer and your bank account.
  4. On the CATEGORY column, select your accounts receivable.
  5. Enter your customer's overpayment or credit amount.
  6. Click Save and close.

After following the step's above, you'll have to link the check to your customer overpayment or credit amount. Let me show you how:

  1. Go to the Plus icon.
  2. Under Customers, select Receive payments.
  3. On the Customer field, select your customer with the overpayment.
  4. Select the check you recently created.
  5. Click Save and close.

In addition, here's an article you can read to learn more about how you can create a refund receipt: Record a Customer Refund.

Once completed, you can now match your downloaded transaction to your customer refund. To do so, you can read this article so you'll be guided on how to do the task: Download, Match, and Categorise your Bank Transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Lastly, I've also included this helpful article in case your transactions aren't matched correctly: Fix Mismatched or Miscategorized Bank Transactions. Please know that even if this article if for the US version of QuickBooks, the same steps apply to your current version.

If there's anything else that I can help you with, please let me know in the comment section down below. I'll be always around ready to help.
