LOST a checking account using "Disconnect this account on save".
Can I get it back??
I was trying to reconnect my back account and I thought that by disconnecting it, it might ask for new credentials. I was wrong. It removed my checking account from my Banking tab and I would like to reverse my actions.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

You can reconnect your checking account, Mike787.
We're unable to reverse the action made. No worries, if you disconnect an account from online banking, it stays active and available in your Chart of Accounts. The system just stops downloading new transactions. You can reconnect it to start downloading transactions again. Aside from that, disconnecting an account deletes any transactions that still need to be reviewed in the For Review tab. If they're older than 90 days, you won't be able to download them into QuickBooks again. However, you can manually upload them.
Here's how to connect:
You can use these references for a more detailed process on how to connect your bank and manually upload more than 90 days of transactions.
I'm just here if you have other questions. You take care and have a great day!

Oh yeah sure let me just go ahead and click "connect" on my bank account that's been ƒucking closed for 7 ƒucking years! So simple, why didn't I think of that!
What a splendid idea to put NO WARNING WHATSOEVER on a catastrophic selection on goddamn software with NO ƒUCKING UNDO function after it constantly ƒucking forces itself onto the non synced account every goddamn time you do anything whatsoever anywhere in the bank feed on any other account so it can waste as much time as possible for goddamn years with no simple "ignore" option, or imagine this: Disconnect does what it ƒucking says and disconnects from sync without removing all your goddamn uncategorized transactions.
I've ƒucking had it with this. God for ƒucking bid there be ANY kind of undo or restore function on this asinine software. Sure let me go ahead and call support, oh but wait they're ƒucking closed when I have time to deal with this so let me go ahead and waste billable hours dealing with this when they're open so they can basically transfer me around and say they'll fix the issue and nothing ever gets done and I have to waste more of my ƒucking time calling in again.
I'm so done with this dumpster fire I'm looking at other options, ƒucking excel spreadsheets would be more intuitive than this.
There is no option in the Action dropdown menu next to the account to "Connect bank". If I Connect the same account QB is too dumb to realize it's the same account and it will produce 1000's of duplicate transactions that will need to be manually deleted and re-categorized, etc.
Please advise, perhaps this process has changed as this thread is nearly 2 years old but as of December of 2022 this workflow doesn't work as expected to reconnect an already existing account.
I can help you with connecting your bank account to pull up your latest transactions, @tbutton.
Yes, you're right. Connecting two of the same accounts will cause duplicate transactions.
Can you tell me why you're attempting to reconnect the bank account?
If you're having problems with your bank account and need to update some information, you should consider updating your bank information instead to avoid duplicates.
Here's how:
To fix bank errors you'll possibly encounter when updating your bank account information, follow the links to fix specific download errors in this article: What to do if you get a bank error or can't download transactions in QuickBooks Online.
If you're trying to connect this account, follow the steps provided in the following article on how to do it from the Transactions page: Connect bank and credit card accounts to QuickBooks Online. Please take note that the steps provided by Catherine_B above is connecting bank accounts from the Chart of Accounts page.
Once you've downloaded your transactions and encountered duplicates, set them as Excluded. They'll be moved to the Excluded tab and won’t be added to QuickBooks or downloaded again. Here's more information about excluding transactions and reviewing them to put them in the correct accounts: Categorise and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.
To make sure that your accounts are accurate, review your accounts in QuickBooks to make sure they match your bank and credit card statements. Check out this article for the step-by-step process and resolve any errors you'll possibly encounter: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.
I'm always here if you need further help with your bank connection. Keep safe, and have a great weekend!
This happens when a debit/credit card is compromised and a new card number is issued. For whatever reason, QB isn't smart enough to realize that it's the same account and so it will lose connection.
I figured out how to do it before seeing your response but ultimately what you have laid out doesn't work. This is for QB Online, there is not a "Bookkeeping" section as you've laid out. Which is also the problem with Catherine_B's previous steps, as you could see by the original screenshot I provided, that option was not listed under actions.
The steps taken to make this reconnect without causing a bunch of duplicates, etc. and maintain all of your existing account categorizations that have already been reviewed is as follows:
Hi, I tried this last step, but the online bank that I need to reconnect it's not on the list.
so, what do I do now???
Hi there, Marysf86. Let's go over certain details to help you connect your bank to QuickBooks Online.
Connecting a bank or credit card account allows QuickBooks to download transactions. However, there are times when you can't find your bank when you try to set it up. These are some possible explanations:
To fix this, we must ensure that the spelling is exactly as it appears on your bank's website. If that doesn't work, try broader names like "HSBC." You can also search using the bank's URL. For example, look up "hsbc.com" to find HSBC.
If you still can't find your bank, you can use other versions of your bank's name. A financial institution may have multiple bank names or different types of accounts, but only release one website for connection to QuickBooks Online. I've added this article for the detailed steps: Find your bank or credit card account when you connect to online banking.
Once you successfully connect your bank or credit card account to QuickBooks, you can use this link as a future reference: Categorise and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online. This will guide you on how to review downloaded transactions from your bank.
Feel free to come back to this thread if you have other banking concerns. I'll be here to help. Take care and enjoy your day!
