Why are balances shown as n/a in bank register

Let’s get that running balance back in your bank register, @lc-taxconsultant.

In QuickBooks Online, the running balance can disappear or show N/A for a few reasons. We need to verify that three key register settings are correct to restore the balance display.

The most common cause is a hidden column. To resolve this:

  1. Go to the Chart of accounts under the Transactions menu.
  2. Select Account history. Then, click the small Gear icon beside the print and export button.
  3. Tick the box for Running Balance. After this, the column will show up beside the Reconciliation Status column.                       image.png

Next, ensure the transactions in the register are sorted by Date. Click the Date column header until a downward arrow appears, confirming chronological sorting. Finally, scroll to the first transaction in the register. Ensure it is labeled Opening Balance Equity and has the letter R for Reconciled in the Reconciliation Status column.         image.png

If the issue persists, log out of QuickBooks Online and log back in. A quick refresh like this often resolves temporary issues or connectivity problems. Alternatively, you can open your QBO account in a supported browser such as Google Chrome, Firefox, or Safari.
