In QuickBooks Online, the running balance can disappear or show N/A for a few reasons. We need to verify that three key register settings are correct to restore the balance display.
The most common cause is a hidden column. To resolve this:
Next, ensure the transactions in the register are sorted by Date. Click the Date column header until a downward arrow appears, confirming chronological sorting. Finally, scroll to the first transaction in the register. Ensure it is labeled Opening Balance Equity and has the letter R for Reconciled in the Reconciliation Status column.
If the issue persists, log out of QuickBooks Online and log back in. A quick refresh like this often resolves temporary issues or connectivity problems. Alternatively, you can open your QBO account in a supported browser such as Google Chrome, Firefox, or Safari.
