How to upgrade a trial to confirm that custom fields work

I'm assisting my client move across from a very old desktop version of QB to QB Online. He runs a dental tech business and he invoices dentists but needs a custom field for the patient. This field needs to show up both on the invoice and the statement. I made contact with your startup support team and they confirmed that this can be done with the next version up. How can we upgrade my client's trial to this version so that we can test that this works before committing to paying for QB Online?

How to upgrade a trial to confirm that custom fields work

Greetings! It's nice to have you back in the Community forum, Alistair.

It is easy to upgrade a QuickBooks Online trial account. I'd be pleased to demonstrate how:

  1. Select the Gear icon at the top of your QBO account, then choose Account and Settings.
  2. Click the Billing & Subscription tab.
  3. In the QuickBooks Online section, hit Upgrade your plan.
  4. Review the available plans and then select Choose plan.
  5. Follow the on-screen steps.

Please know that you can only upgrade the plan from version Simple Start to Plus. If you want to upgrade to QuickBooks Online Advanced, you need to contact support.

You may use these articles to manage subscriptions in QuickBooks Online moving forward:

How to upgrade a trial to confirm that custom fields work

Thanks for all of your help.

Just one more question: I've got the custom field showing up on the invoice.

Your support team told me that it could also be added to the statement. It's important for my client to have the custom field that I've created appear on the statement lines too. Is this possible and if so, please advise how it should be done.

How to upgrade a trial to confirm that custom fields work

Thanks for getting back into this thread, @Alistair C. I'm here to clarify a few things about how the custom field feature works in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

You're correct that you can add some custom fields to show up on your invoices and other sales forms in QBO. However, it is not an option when adding a custom field to your statements.

Rest assured that I'll relay this message to our team in concern here on my end and add your vote for this one. You can also share your thoughts and ideas through your account. Our product development team reviews all the feedback we receive to ensure we’re meeting the needs of our customers. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Select Feedback.
  3. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
  4. Click Next.

Additionally, you can visit this article to learn how to create attractive and professional-looking invoices in QBO: Customise invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online. With this, you can personalise and add specific information that matters most to your business.

If you have further questions about custom fields in QBO, just let me know by leaving a comment below. I'm always here to help.

Thanks so much for your response. Unfortunately, this is probably a bit of a deal-breaker for my client. I've found some workarounds but it's a bit messy.

That said, if there is a possibility of this being an option in the future, my client would like to activate their account and keep going. A lot of work has been done during the trial period in order to test your system (manual uploads of products and services, clients, emails and invoicing setups). How long will these details be available on the trial account after it expires? In other words, how long does my client have before he has to activate the account with payment and proceed to use the account using the work that has already gone into this setup?

I appreciate the prompt reply, @Alistair C. I'll be glad to share insights about added feature in QuickBooks Online.

I just want to let know that your suggestions are important to us in developing the product. At this time, there aren’t any updates about this and a specific time frame as to when this feature is available.

I know that you want this to be added before the trials expire, but our developers are closely reviewing any added features in QBO to avoid errors once they're released in the system.

While we continue to work on meeting our customer's needs, I encourage you to visit our QuickBooks sites. From here we share updates including new features available in the product:

In case you want to sign up for QBO, feel free to check out this page for more details: Choose the accounting plan that’s right for your business.

Feel welcome to reach back out if you have any other concerns. I’m willing to explore and share info while making sure everything is covered. Take care always.

Thanks but my question is not to force you to implement a feature that you don't currently have.

I want to know how long the trial details remain online. In other words, I'm sure that you don't delete the account the moment the trial expires. How long do you give prospective users to fully activate their account with payment?

Thank you for the clarification, Alistair.

Once the trial ends, we'll keep your data for a year. Your data will be deleted after that. Check out this article for more information about what happens to your data after the end of your trial period: Cancel your QuickBooks Online subscription or trial.

Once you decide to come back, here's how to resubscribe to or reactivate QuickBooks Online. If you subscribe within a year after your trial expires your data will still be available.

Let me know if you need more information about managing your subscription. I'm always glad to help in any way I can. Have a great rest of the day!
