Importing bills

Hello, Lisa.

I'll show you how you can import your bills into QuickBooks Online.

Importing bills is possible in QuickBooks Online. We can use the Import data function to bring in all of your bills from a CSV file. Here's how to do it:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then select Import data.
  2. Select Bills
  3. Browse for the CSV file, then hit Next. We can also check the "Add new suppliers.." box if there are suppliers in your bills not added in QuickBooks.
  4. Map the fields, then proceed with Next
  5. Click Start import to add your bills to your QuickBooks Online account.

Regarding the customers and classes on your CSV file, we're unable to include them in the import process. Only mandatory fields can be assigned.

A guide about importing your bills can also be found here: Import your bills in QuickBooks Online.

So, what we want to do is to manually assign the customers and the classes after importing those bills. We just need to enable the Billable expenses and the Classes features first:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then select Account and settings.
  2. Go to the Expenses tab.
  3. Toggle the Make expenses and items billable and other billable options to On.
  4. Set other options for your billable expenses.
  5. Hit Save.
  6. Go to the Advanced tab.
  7. Expand the Categories section.
  8. Toggle the Classes option to On.
  9. Hit Save, then Done

Open the bills, then assign the customers and the classes manually.

We can learn more about the import processes here: Common questions about importing data to QuickBooks Online.

After managing your bills, we can also run a few reports to see your current expenses and other numbers on your books. Check this article out if you need a guide: Run reports in QuickBooks Online.

Want to import other data into QuickBooks Online? Or would you like to enter some transactions into your books? Let me know what else you need to do and I'll be glad to work with you again.
