I noticed that my inventory items are exporting to qbo as non-inventory items. After some digging around I found that QBO will not transfer inventory from the Mac desktop version! The suggestion by intuit is to save my inventory as a qb windows file, then use a windows computer with qb for windows, and upload that way! Well I don't want to purchase a new computer and qb software just to use qbo!
Anyone have the same issue and find a workaround?
I really like the online version, but having QB track our inventory is non-negotiable! Also does QBO use the average cost of goods price? I didn't see it on when I manually changed an non inventory item to inventory.
Thanks
Your posting is appeared in Global Community. Just to clarify your question. Where is your company located? In the US or another country?
Yes. In the US.
thanks
Make sure you are migrating your data to QBO US Plus or QBO Advanced to manage inventories.

If you are using QBO Simple Start or Essentials, consider to open a new blank QBO account. The discounted rate is not applicable when upgrading your plan.
Thank you, I am using plus. But the issue seems to be with it coming from a Mac version of qb. My inventory exports but is all changed from inventory to non inventory.
Hello @fenellaCUI,
As of the moment, there isn't an integrated way to convert your company data from QuickBooks Desktop for Mac to QuickBooks Online with the inventory. But you do not need to worry, you can download a trial version of QuickBooks Desktop for windows for your data conversion. I'll show you.
To start with, here's a couple of articles you can use to download and install the trial version and proceed with the conversion:
Once done, here's how you can convert from the windows version to the online version so you can start doing business with inventory:
In the same manner, here's an article you can read to learn more about how you can convert your company data: Learn how to import your QuickBooks Desktop company file to QuickBooks Online.
On top of that, I've also included this helpful article about what you can expect after the conversion: Find out what data doesn't convert when you migrate from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.
You can always leave a comment below if you have follow-up questions with this or start a new thread if you have any other concerns. I'll be here to lend a hand. Take care and stay safe!
Wonderful, thank you so much for your reply!
I have one more question, does qbo use average cost of goods price or the set price I input?
thanks
QBO use FIFO. You need an additional app to use Average Cost.
What is the name of that app?
thanks
If you are using QBO US version, you may integrate it with QuickBooks Commerce. Unfortunately, you may not be able to integrate it until next year. If you are interested to use a 3rd party app, contact us in private. We may introduce you directly to the app developer.
