I'm attempting to import 2 bills via .csv from the same shipping vendor. One of them imported just fine, but the second is giving me an error. It says I need to correct issues shown in the red areas, but the only thing that looks like an error is a red exclamation point in the top left of the entry screen that says an application error has occurred. How do I go about fixing this?
Hello there, @RobinMcD.
I understand your frustration with this subject. I'm here to share some information about CSV mapping in QuickBooks Online.
The majority of CSV data import errors fall into a few categories, such as mismatched headers or unexpected values. This post will walk you through the CSV import process, file data structure, and common issues to help you troubleshoot your import.
Before importing our data, we must accurately prepare your CSV (or Excel) file.
The following columns are required:
Supplier Bill Date Due Date Account Line Amount Line Bill No. The Tax Code
During the import flow, we can map each column headings to QuickBooks bill fields. There is also a data file example available for download. Check out this article for the detailed guideline for mapping and importing bills in QuickBooks Online.
Let us also ensure that the file is up to date and not damaged to avoid importing issues with your bills.
I've included this article for the frequently asked questions about importing data in QuickBooks Online.
Please keep us updated on the outcome in the comments section below. I want to make sure that this is resolved for you. You have a good one.
I am trying to upload Bills using a .csv file, however I don't even see the option to import Bills under Settings > Import Data. These are the only options I have. How come I can't see an option to upload Bills? Please help as we really need this feature.
I'll help you bring in your transactions into QuickBooks Online (QBO), @ellichristina.
The option to import bills is available for QBO ROW (rest of the world) regions. You should be able to see this feature by clicking the Gear icon and selecting Import data.
To isolate the issue, can you share with us the type of subscription and region you're currently using? This way, we can check it on our end and help you import your data into the program.
In the meantime, let's perform some basic troubleshooting steps to address the issue. There are times when too much files stored in the system can cause unexpected behavior with the product.
Let's start by accessing your account in a private window. This will help us check if the issue is cache-related. Simply press the following shortcut keys to access this mode:
Once done, go back to Settings and check if you can see the Bills under Import data. If yes, go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. If you're still getting the same results, use another supported browser.
Aside from that, you can look for other QuickBooks-integrated apps to help move your bills into the program. Just to the Apps menu and search for the app from there.
Moreover, we've assembled some frequently asked questions about importing data to QuickBooks Online. You can check them out in this article: Common questions about importing data to QBO.
Please let me know if you need further assistance in bringing your transactions into QuickBooks. I'm always here to help. Have a nice day.
Hello,
Thanks for your reply. To answer your questions, I am using the Accountant version of QBO in the U.S.
I followed your instructions and tried to login with a separate incognito/private window, and I still don't see the option. I also don't see the option when I log into a couple other client accounts directly. I also logged in with a different browser and still nothing...
It would be great to be able to use this. Is anyone else not seeing the Upload Bills option?
Thanks
Elli
Thanks for getting back here in the thread, @ellichristina. I'll ensure you can get through this so you can proceed to import your bills to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account.
I understand how important it is for you to import your bills directly. However, this option is currently unavailable in the QBO account. Although you can't access the feature, I have a solution to help you get out of this situation and start importing your bills to your account. You can integrate a third-party app into your QBO account, and if you wish to continue with this method, I'll gladly input the steps below so you can get started. To begin, here's how:
You can also visit our QB App Store website to get a third-party app: QuickBooks Apps Store.
Although we have applications that you can integrate with your account for free, please be aware that there are also 3rd party apps that require you to pay an additional payment for the app to integrate with your QuickBooks Online account.
Additionally, here's an article to help you manage your bills and record bill payments in QBO: Enter bills and record bill payments in QuickBooks Online.
You can also check this page to learn more about the data you can import to QuickBooks Online: Common questions about importing data to QuickBooks Online.

Hi Elli,
I access the bill import by going to the Expenses tab, then under the New Transactions drop down choose Batch Transactions. It pops up with a new screen that usually defaults to Expenses, but you can choose Bills from the drop down on the top left. There's also an example csv template that you can download.
I also don't see the Import Data option under the gear icon, and I have no idea why that's the only thing they ever suggest.
