Import desktop data

Welcome to the Community space, kumumu. I'll share information to help you get your data into your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) company file.

Depending on the file format of your data and the operating system you have when accessing the program, you can import them through MS Excel, CSV files, or the IIF process. If your files are in IIF format, these are the steps to have them available inside the program:

  1. Access your QuickBooks Desktop company file as an admin. A reminder, if you’re in Multi-user mode, click the File menu, then select Switch to Single-user Mode.
  2. Click the File menu, and then select Utilities.
  3. Select Import, and then click Import IIF.
  4. Click the IIF file you want to import, then select Open.
  5. Once you're ready, select OK to confirm the import.

For more details, please see this US-based article. The same steps mentioned on this page also work for your region: Import and export data in QuickBooks Desktop.

Additionally, we recommend checking this US-based article to help you secure a backup copy of your QBDT company file: Back up your QuickBooks Desktop company file.

You can visit us anytime or comment below if you require further assistance importing data inside the program. Rest assured, our team will be around 24/7 to lend you a helping hand. Stay safe.
