in the quick books balance sheet reporting template, accounts receivable comes first before cash and cash equivalents. It looks odd.

Can we put first the cash and cash equivalents before accounts receivable in the balance sheet format?

Welcome to the Community space.

We recognize the importance of having the option to reorganize what you see in your balance sheet report template. Upon checking here on our end, the feature or option you're trying to access inside the program is unavailable. However, if you wish to rearrange what you see in your data, you can export the balance sheet report and edit it manually. But before doing so, please know that you may experience issues with numbers being out of balance, and that said, you'll want to reorganize it accurately so it'll still match your records inside QuickBooks Online (QBO).

In case you want to proceed with exporting your report, we'll gladly write down the steps:

  1. Access your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. Go to the Reports tab.
  3. Search for Balance Sheet and select the report you want to export.
  4. At the top of the report, select the Export icon. Then select Export to Excel.
  5. Save the file somewhere you can easily find, like your Downloads folder or your desktop.

See this page for more details: Export your reports to Excel from QuickBooks Online.

In addition, you can visit these articles to help you add more information to your business report, help you keep your current report settings and schedule them for future use in QBO:

Can we put first the cash and cash equivalents before accounts receivable in the balance sheet format?

It's odd that QBooks put A/R first instead of Cash and Cash Equivalents. I don't have problem with your suggestions that we just export it to excel and re- arrange. But It would be nice if we take away that process. After all following GAAP, Cash and Cash Equivalents always come first in Balance Sheet reporting. This is actually the first time I saw A/R comes first in the BS reporting. Thanks.

Can we put first the cash and cash equivalents before accounts receivable in the balance sheet format?

My dear, this is not a suggestion to make. This is simply accounting/reporting basic principles and it should be fixed with no suggestions. I came across this matter and when I searched for it, this has been the answer from QBO team since 2022 "provide your feedback and suggest". I mean come on, someone has to take this to the developers and get them to fix it.
