The transaction that was created ended up as an " invoice". I meant it to be an estimate. How do I change the description from invoice to an estimate?

Having precise financial information is essential for effective business management, and I'm pleased to assist you in correcting the sales transaction.

In QuickBooks, you cannot directly change an invoice description into an estimate. However, you can manually create a new estimate using the information from the invoice. This approach allows you to maintain accurate records and ensure all details are properly reflected in your estimate.

To begin with, let's find and open the invoice:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account.
  2. Go to the Sales tab, then select Invoices.

  3. Select the invoice you want to change into an estimate.
  4. Manually copy the details from the invoice, including items, quantities, and any other relevant info.

Next, create a new estimate transaction using the details from the invoice:

  1. Go to the Sales tab again and select Estimates.

  2. Click on Create Estimate.
  3. Enter the copied details from the invoice. Ensure all information is correct and complete.
  4. Once done, click Save and Close.

After successfully creating the estimate, let's go back to the invoice and delete it to keep your records organized:

  1. Return to the Sales tab and select Invoices.
  2. Open the invoice and select More Actions at the lower part of the page.

  3. Select the Void button.

Once a customer agrees to your estimate, you have the option to seamlessly convert it into an invoice moving forward. This process is efficient, as QuickBooks takes care of the details for you.
