Every time I now log in I am sent a verification code by email. Is this new ? I cannot verify my phone number as the system says it cannot send texts to Ireland ?

Based on the error, your QuickBooks Online account may not be registered to the Ireland region. That's the reason why you cannot verify your phone number when using it for verification purposes. First thing to do is to make sure you're signing up in the correct region. 
 

To correct your QBO account, you'll need to cancel the old subscription. Then, sign up for a new one. Here's how to cancel:

 

  1. Open a web browser and sign in to QuickBooks Online as an admin user.
  2. Go to the Gear icon.
  3. Select  Account and settings under Your Company
  4. Go to the Billing & Subscription tab.
  5. In the QuickBooks section, select Cancel subscription or Cancel online. If you're cancelling a trial, select Cancel trial.
  6. Follow the onscreen steps.
