Hi, I use quickbooks online and I am looking to know Data Backup and Recovery policy for QBO.

Hello there, hassan5.

I can help you know more about how data backup and recovery works in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

QuickBooks Online versions like Simple Start, Essentials, and Plus have an automatic back-up feature since it's a cloud-based subscription.

Here are the things QuickBooks do to keep your data safe and secure:

  • Whenever there are changes to your company file, your data is saved to two hard drives.
  • We periodically copy all data to a third-party hard drive in order to protect your data in case something happens to the first two hard drives.
  • Automatic backups are performed every night.

QuickBooks Online Advanced, on the other hand, has the Online Backup and Restore feature. This allows you to restore the latest backup data from a specific time and date.

Here's how:

  1. Sign in to the Online Backup and Restore app.
  2. Select Restore from the menu.
  3. Select New Restore.
  4. In the Company drop-down, select the company you want to overwrite and restore your accounting data to.
  5. In the Restore to drop-down, select the specific time and date you want to restore to. You can restore as far back as your first backup.
  6. When you're ready, select Create Restore. Then select Restore to confirm.

You can go through this article for more details: Back up and restore your QuickBooks Online Advanced company (formerly ChronoBooks).

You might also want to visit our QuickBooks Online learning guides for tutorials and webinars about the product.

Keep me posted for additional questions or other concerns. I'll be around to help you.

Hi, I use quickbooks online and I am looking to know Data Backup and Recovery policy for QBO.

Hello, this is very helpful. It's understandable that QuickBooks can restore data to a certain point of time.

However, a client wants to only restore the current year data (let's say 2021). The prior year's data will be brought back in via a journal entry (or trial balance). Is this accomplishable?

Thanks for any insights.

Hi, I use quickbooks online and I am looking to know Data Backup and Recovery policy for QBO.

Let me add a few information, Jojoaccounting19.

If you're subscribed to QuickBooks Online Advanced, you can create a backup for 2021 and restore it.

However, you'll have to enter the journal entries manually for the prior years.

If you have additional questions, don't hesitate to get back to this thread. We'll reply as soon as we can. Take care!

Hi, I use quickbooks online and I am looking to know Data Backup and Recovery policy for QBO.

Thanks @Kristine Mae . This is very helpful. Assume client can save a copy with the full database in its local drive, so that if they need the data in the future, it's still traceable. Is my understanding correct? Thanks.

Hi, I use quickbooks online and I am looking to know Data Backup and Recovery policy for QBO.

Hello Jojoaccounting19!

You're right! With the backup and restore feature in QuickBooks Online Advanced, you can go back to a specific time or date and restore your data.

However, please note that this isn't available in the international versions. The reason is that QuickBooks Online Advanced is only available in the United States for now. Please check this link to learn more about this feature: Back up and restore your QuickBooks Online Advanced company (formerly ChronoBooks).

For the international versions, you may look for a third-party app that you can integrate into QuickBooks Online. Visit the Apps tab to search for one.

Do you have more clarifications? Let me know by replying again to this post.
