How do I migrate my QuickBooks desktop Enterprise Solutions 12.0 files to QuickBooks Online?

It's great to see you in the Community, james.

Transitioning from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to QuickBooks Online (QBO) offers the advantage of seamless collaboration with your accountant or team members. It also gives you the flexibility to access your company from anywhere, as long as there's an internet connection.

Allow me to guide you through the conversion process. To ensure a smooth transition of your desktop data to the online platform, let's make use of the online tool. Please take note of the following guidelines before utilizing the utility:

  • Make sure your chart of accounts balances is up to date and accurate.
  • Make sure your balance sheet is with your latest tax return.
  • Reconcile your bank and credit statements.
  • Categorize any open transactions.
  • Pay any outstanding invoices.
  • Finish any outstanding payroll runs or payroll tax payments.

Additionally, certain features and data may not transfer to QBO when migrating. For a comprehensive list, refer to this article: Learn how features and data move from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

Note: The articles and links shared are from the U.S. region, including the support information.

When you're ready, click the tool for your product: QuickBooks Enterprise. Next, choose the Get Started button and log in with your Intuit Account.

Then, upload your company file. Here's how:

  1. Choose Select File then browse to the supported QBDT file you want to move. Note: You can only upload one file at a time.
  2. Click the Open button to upload the file or drag and drop your desktop file to upload it.
  3. Once uploaded, we’ll auto-update it to the latest version of QuickBooks Desktop.
  4. From there, you'll see an option to move to QBO.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the migration.

If your books fail to update to the desktop program or move to QuickBooks Online, I recommend reaching out to our customer support team for further assistance. You can also explore this article for additional guidance on using the utility: Move your books to QuickBooks Online with an online tool.

Gain valuable insights on migrating your desktop company file to the online platform by referring to this resource: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online. You'll also find details about the timeframe for creating the online file and moving your data.

I have put together a collection of links that will assist you in adapting to the tasks and features in QBO. Simply click on each link to access comprehensive information:
