Thanks for joining us in the Community, ed4biz. I appreciate your time in submitting your question about managing account balances in QBO.

The amount will show as an opening balance equity in the account register. Let me share the steps on how you can edit it.

Here's how:

  1. Go back to your Chart of Accounts and look for the account.
  2. Click Account history under the Action column.
  3. Look for the Opening Balance and click on it.
  4. Change the amount of the balance under the Increase column.
  5. Click Save

I am collecting Capital Share and recording them as deposits to an account named MEMBERS' CAPITAL SHARE. I can sort the report by name. How can I produce the report with totals by name?

Hello there, ed4biz. I can help you run a report in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

We can pull up the Transaction List by Date report to show the totals by name. I'll guide you on how to do it.

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. In the search bar, type Transaction List by Date.
  3. Tap Switch to classic view.
  4. Choose the Report period from the drop-down arrow.
  5. Click the Customise button.
  6. Select the Transactions Type drop-down arrow, and choose what transactions you want to run.
  7. Pick the names.
  8. Hit Run report.

After that, it'll show the breakdown of the transactions and the totals of each name. You can also tap the Group by drop-down arrow and select either VendorCustomer, or Account.

Moreover, click the Save Customization button to memorise the report. It will help you save time since it automatically updates if there are newly added transactions.

Additionally, you can visit this page to learn more about personalising data in QuickBooks: Customise reports.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. In the Search field, type in Transaction List by Date report.

I opened a Simple Start plan today. I'm trying to customize the reports. There is no option to change the report title and group by Name.

Hello there, @dclcoop.

I can see the importance of changing the title of the report in QuickBooks Online (QBO) Simple Start. Allow me to further assist you with this.

In QBO Simple Start, we can change report title and group it by Name if we switch from modern view to classic view. This way, we'll have the option to change it by clicking the pencil icon. Please see the screenshot below for visual preferences.
