I have a client (construction company) that would like to separate his A/R into different categories. He wants to see them as "interior" and "exterior" sub accounts, instead of just one A/R. I have no problem creating the accounts, but I cannot save invoices to them. They automatically go to the parent A/R. Journal Entries do nothing but throw off the books and make it impossible to deal with. Any suggestions?
Glad you made it here, CKA.
Once you create an invoice, QuickBooks will automatically post it under the Accounts Receivable account. In the meantime, you can create a journal entry to move your transactions from the parent to sub-accounts. You can refer to this article for the detailed steps: Create a journal entry in QuickBooks Online
As a workaround, to properly track the Account receivable, I'd suggest using Class tracking instead of sub-AR: Get started with class tracking this article provides detailed instructions from the setup process up to creating a budget for each segment
