Tax Name column is blank in the VAT control transaction report. How can it be added?

Let's perform some troubleshooting steps to get this sorted out, @trishas-bayt-net.

We'll need to make sure the tax name is reflected on the transactions so that it will flow on the report. Just open an invoice transaction to see if the Tax column is showing on that field. Once done, try running the report with the correct period. Then, click the Gear icon on the report and ensure the Tax Name column is selected.

If the same thing happens, there may be an issue with your browser that sometimes cause behavior like this. Let's try some quick browser troubleshooting to fix the blank Tax column on the report in QuickBooks Online (QBO). First, use a private browser since this doesn't store data in the cache and it is the best place to isolate browser issues. Try these keyboard shortcuts depending on the browser you're using:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

If this works, I recommend you go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. This removes the log files and starts with a clean slate. Otherwise, use other supported browsers to be thorough.

Additionally, I've attached some articles you can refer to for managing VAT rates in QuickBooks:

Just leave a comment below after performing the steps provided as I want to make sure this is resolved for you. Have a great day ahead.

Tax Name column is blank in the VAT control transaction report. How can it be added?

Thanks for your reply.

However, I received a different response from QB team via chat.

"I have verified with our Back End, they have confirmed, for now only sales report like Sales
by Customer Detail and Transaction Detail by Account Report can show tax name. Other reports cannot show tax name yet like vat control transaction report, hence it is empty when you customize and add tax name column."

Kindly confirm if this is the case, or if there is a workaround to show it on the VAT Control account transaction report.

Tax Name column is blank in the VAT control transaction report. How can it be added?

Hello there, @trishas-bayt-net. Thanks for getting back to this thread. I'm here to share a workaround on how you can add a tax name to the VAT Control transaction report.

You can perform the process by exporting the report to excel and customising the fields there. This way, you can add the tax name to it. Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account.
  2. Then, open the VAT Control transaction report.
  3. Next, click the Export icon and select Export to Excel.
  4. Once done, edit the report and add the tax names.

For more information on modifying your report, here's the article that you can access: Customise reports in QuickBooks Online.

I've also got here a compilation of frequently asked questions about the VAT Feature Update. This gives you information about new features available in making your VAT filing a lot easier.

Let me know how this goes. And if you have additional questions about the process, feel free to reply below. I'm always around to provide answers. Have a good one.
