How to edit or delete group tax in quickbooks online plus

Welcome! I'll guide you with modifying your existing group tax in QuickBooks Online (QBO) Plus, elgaby.

I want you to know that you need to make the group tax inactive so you won't see this tax rate on your transactions anymore. While editing or deleting it is unavailable, you can follow these steps to inactivate it.

  1. Sign in to your QBO account.
  2. Click on Taxes on the left pane.
  3. Tap on VAT.
  4. From the Edit VAT dropdown, select Edit rates.
  5. Locate the group tax from the list.
  6. Disable the rate from the Action column.
  7. Hit Yes to confirm the action.

I'm adding these articles to learn more about the taxes in QBO:

You may also generate your tax reports to know your tax liabilities and see your payment for different periods.

Please let me know if you have follow-up questions while inactivating group taxes in our system. I'm more than happy to help you again. Have a good one!

How to edit or delete group tax in quickbooks online plus

Why is editing or deleting a group tax that I have created unavailable? I need to edit the name and/or one of the taxes used so that I can use the name that I require.

For context, this was my first group rate that I created. I require two taxes that will be applied to purchases and I accidentally selected one tax that is only for sales. I found that I couldn't edit this so I tried again and the system would not let me use the same name. This is super frustrating because I need this specific name to align with our tax system in BC, Canada and for my accountant.

So, can anyone please help me edit my group tax that I created rather than only activating or reactivating?

This is super frustrating.

How to edit or delete group tax in quickbooks online plus

Hi dampear15,

Thanks for joining us here.  As mentioned, the option to delete or edit a sales tax rate is not available in QuickBooks Online.  The only option is to make the rate inactive, then create a new group rate to apply to your associated forms.  When creating the new sales tax rate, you could enter an identifier at the end, such as a (. or *) to eliminate a possible message stating the rate already exists.  If you would like to be able to edit sales tax rates moving forward, feel free to submit a suggestion to the QuickBooks Development team.  Recommendations are greatly appreciated in assisting with improving your overall customer experience with QuickBooks Online.

If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out.  We would be glad to help!
