I'm preparing 2 years worth of BAS's and have realised that I have various online expenses from overseas that were changed to include GST since July 2017.
I’ve already inputed them as Not having GST (but not submitted the BAS yet). So, now I'd like to bulk update all of these to have GST since 1 July 2017.
What’s the best way to go back through and update them all for just this time period (i.e. July 2017 to now)?
I found a video that shows you can search by Category in EXPENSES > FILTER > CATEGORY
https://youtu.be/fJibKXskyyQ?t=453
But I don't think the AU version of quickbooks has this (it's a US Video, or perhaps other version of Quickbooks)
For some of them, I have Rules and ‘Charter of Accounts’. Will updating this to GST inclusive, update all the previously entered transactions, or is it ‘from this point on’ (and if it updates previously entered transactions, can it update only from July 2017 to now?)
Thanks
Hello there, learningthisstuff.
The steps to reclassify the GST codes in the video tutorial is available in the accountant version of QuickBooks Online.
If you've invited an accountant to your company, you can ask them to edit the GST codes on the affected transactions.
Otherwise, open each transaction and manually edit the GST code.
For any additional questions or concerns about GST in QuickBooks, I'll be around to help you some more. Thanks.
Thanks RenjolynC,
So, there's no way to Bulk Reclassify? They all have to be done manually one by one?
Yes, that's right, Learningthisstuff.
You'll have to manually edit the GST codes if you haven't invited an accountant.
Once done, you can prepare your BAS and lodge them.
If any questions arises, please feel free to reach out to us at any time.
Thanks
Do you know if I were to change the Category in the Chart of Accounts to include GST, would that update all the entries that I have already allocated that Category to (to include GST)?
The thing is, I have 1000's of entries, so to go through 1 at a time will take a very long time
Hello there, learningthisstuff.
Updating your Category in the Chart of Accounts will not apply to your old entries but to the entries you will create moving forward.
I understand you have to go through a lot of entries. But for now, the only option is to manually edit the GST codes.
Should you need more clarifications or other questions aside from GST codes, just let me know and I'd be glad to further assist.
That's not good planning to disallow users a bulk reclassification option!
In the 18 months since this question was asked, has Quickbooks updated to allow business owners to do a batch reclassify yet? If so how please?
Hi JBuildCarpentry,
Thank you for for reaching out and welcome to our community!
The batch reclassify function is still exclusive to accountant users in QuickBooks Online. Should you require assistance on this, please discuss with your accountant or bookkeeper.
Thank you and please let us know if you require any additional assistance.
