This happens if the option to automatically apply credits to open invoices in your settings is turned on. I'll provide the steps on how you can turn that off.
- Click on the Gear icon and choose Accounts and Settings.
- Click the Advanced bar and click on the Automation section.
- Turn off the Automatically apply credits feature.
- Click Save and click Done.
