We haven't heard any reported issue about exporting payroll journal of a finalise pay run. Let me show you on how to manual export the payroll journal in QuickBooks Online.

To manually export the payroll journal of a finalise pay run, follow these steps.
You can open the exported payroll journal by clicking on the magnifying or search icon located on the upper right corner.

Thanks for the reply. I was aware of this and have processed this way previously when necessary. My problem is that it is not happening automatically which it almost always has previously unless there was a problem with the chart of accounts and the default links. The first time this happened recently, I checked the COA and it was all good, so I went back to the payrun and it all worked then.
I am just wondering why this is happening at all and why the journal is erroring in the first place?

Ideally, payroll journals are automatically exported after you finalise a pay run. It is correct to check the Chart of Accounts on your Payroll Settings if pay run isn't exporting in QuickBooks to confirm if there are default accounts set and if they're active.
If the default accounts are set up correctly and you're not seeing any error on this section, I'd recommend to contact our QuickBooks Support team to investigate further.

The incident report about unable to export payroll journals has been resolved a few days ago. Let's check your payroll chart of accounts if it's completely set up in your QuickBooks Online account.
If the payroll chart of accounts is fully set up, we'd recommend signing in using a different browser like Google Chrome, Safari or Firefox to isolate the situation.
As a work around you can manually export the payroll journal using below:
