My expense categories on app have disappeared. How do I get them back

I have the same problem. Only happened after I upgraded my subscription. Have spoken to QB phone and via web chat and no one can give me any answers.

My expense categories on app have disappeared. How do I get them back

I have the same issue. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app twice and still the same problem. I am on IPhone 12pro. I have phoned QB and the person I spoke to said they’d email me a link to upload information regarding the problem but I didn’t receive any email.
QB is the most frustrating software. I tried to attach files here and I got an error saying maximum upload allowed had been reached and it was only 4 photos of my screen errors

My expense categories on app have disappeared. How do I get them back

Hello there. I'm here to address your concerns about the missing expense categories and the error you're getting when uploading your photos in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Since there's an ongoing investigation (INV-105679) about the missing expense categories on the app, I suggest reaching out to our Customer Care Support Team so they can immediately add you in the list of the affected users. As a workaround, log in to your QBO account via a website browser or an iPad.

To ensure if you've received the email from the support, check your spam or junk folders.

Moreover, to determine what's preventing you to upload the photos, let's troubleshoot your web browser.

 Here's how:

  1.  Access your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account using a private or incognito browser.
  2.  Restart your web browser.
  3.  Clear cache.
  4.  Add Intuit as a trusted site.

You can choose from the browsers below:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Microsoft Edge: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Safari: press Command + Shift + N

Once you're able to access the expense category on the app, you can follow these steps to run an expense report in QBO:

  1. Navigate to the Reports menu.
  2. Type Transaction and select Transaction Detail by Account report in the search box.
  3. Click Customize.
  4. Set the Report period.
  5. In the Filter section, select the All Expenses Accounts in the Distribution Account field.
  6. Run report.

Please don't hesitate to return to this thread if you have further concerns about uploading your files into the system or if you need help with anything else in the program. The Community is always here to support you anytime.

My expense categories on app have disappeared. How do I get them back

Thank you for joining the thread, Nuttymom.

As mentioned by my colleague, there's an ongoing investigation (INV-105679) regarding Expense Categories not showing in the QuickBooks Online Mobile App for iOS devices.

I recommend contacting our support so they can add you to the affected users' list and provide updates about the status of the investigation via email.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Help.
  2. Select Search.
  3. Click the Contact Us button and enter your concern.
  4. Press Continue

You can check our support hours by visiting this article: QuickBooks Online Support.

If you're using an Android device, you can follow these steps for basic troubleshooting.

Here's How:

  1. Go to the More Options.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Click Refresh Data.
  4. Then select Yes.

If the issue persists, you can uninstall and reinstall the Online mobile application. This will free up the storage without deleting your app's documents and data. Otherwise, you can access your QBO using other supported browsers.

Nevertheless, you can compare mobile app features and see QuickBooks Online access for mobile devices to learn which QuickBooks Online app features are supported on mobile devices.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work towards resolving this issue. If you need further assistance with managing your expense categories or anything else, just reply below, and I'll circle back to help you.

Same problem. Reinstalling hasn’t helped. Doesn’t appear Intuit has a solution. This has to be a widespread problem. The lack of support is disappointing to say the least.

My expense categories on app have disappeared. How do I get them back

Hi behzad1357,

Thanks for joining the thread. I understand how important to be able to have the expense categories be available in the QBO Mobile App. The reported product investigation about Expense Categories is not showing in the QuickBooks Mobile App (iOS) after saved has been resolved. Let's make sure your app in on the latest version.

Follow below steps for the fix to apply:

  1. On your iOS device, visit the App store.
  2. Update QuickBooks Accounting app to the latest version 24.05.9.
  3. Sign into your QuickBooks Online account.
  4. Go to Menu tab > All tab.
  5. Select Expenses section to view the categories.

Check if your expense categories is shown. If the issue persists, I recommend contacting our Customer Care Team. That way, one of our care agents can further escalate the issue encountered.

Post again in the Community if you have questions about using the mobile app. I'm around to help you. Take care!

My expense categories on app have disappeared. How do I get them back

Hi @IntuitSheila . Thanks for the reply.

Just to mention that "Update" the app did not resolve my issue. However, I can see the categories after uninstall/reinstall of the app on my iPhone. Might save some time for my fellow users
