Why don't transaction "auto-add" rules ever work automatically? Never has and the only way I can get it to work, is go to an existing rule, click 'edit' then 'save.

I can help you make the banking rule work automatically in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @Jrod11.

Unexpected results when doing something in QBO are usually caused by cache or other browser issues. However, you mentioned that it's still happening even if you tried logging in using a different browser.

A regular browser's cache stores temporary internet files from your browsing history. However, as it collects too many files, this may cause performance issues in your account.

I've got some steps to help fix this issue. First, you'll have to sign in to your QBO account using a private browser. This helps isolate the issue since it doesn’t store data in the cache. Here are the following keyboard shortcuts:

  • Safari: Command + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: CTRL + Shift + P
  • Google Chrome: CTRL + Shift + N
  • Microsoft Edge: CTRL + Shift + P

If it works, here's how to clear cache and cookies to fix issues when using QuickBooks Online. Restart your browser right after.

You can also try to log in to your account using other supported browsers (Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, Microsoft Edge) if the steps above don’t work.

Once done, here's how to review your downloaded transactions, then categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Reach out to me if you need further assistance when working with banking rules in QuickBooks. I’ll be glad to lend a helping hand. Stay safe and have a good one.

Hi.

I use Chrome and tried clearing cache, using a chrome incognitio/private tab, and then Microsoft edge (which I never used).

Made no improvement and auto-add doesn't automatically work.

I've seen other users complaining of this same bug. When will it be fixed?

I can see how hard you tried here. No worries, I'll make it up to you to ensure you never have to deal with this again, Jrod11.

We appreciate you for performing the recommended solutions provided by my colleague. In this case, we can go to the Banking page delete your bank rules, and add a new rule. Then, turn on Auto-add under Automatically confirm transactions this rule applies to in the Rules window. This can help refresh the system and clear any underlying issues that may have been causing the defective bank rule not to work as expected. Let me guide you on how:

  1. Click Banking from the left menu, then select Rules.
  2. Select the rules you want to delete.
  3. Under the Actions column, click the arrow down beside Edit and select Delete.
  4. Press Yes to confirm.

Once done, create the new rule by following the steps and details in this article: Set up bank rules to categorise online banking transactions in QuickBooks Online. Then, set up the Auto-add feature in your bank rules. Here's how:

  1. Follow the steps to create a new bank rule.
  2. Turn on Auto-add under Automatically confirm transactions this rule applies to in the Rules window.
  3. Press Save.

After you create an auto-add rule, any transactions on the For review tab that meet the conditions are automatically added. Also, auto-add rules run when you sign in, upload a file or create or modify a new auto-add rule. After the steps, the transactions will go to the For Review tab.

If the same thing happens, please contact our Customer Support Team. They'll pull up your account in a secure environment and investigate what's causing this issue. Here's how.

  1. Go to the (?) Help icon.
  2. Select Talk to a Human.
  3. Enter a short description of your concern.
  4. Click on I still need a human.
  5. Tap Contact Us to connect with our live support.
  6. Choose to Get a callback.

After adding them, you can now match, categorise, and reconcile them to ensure your books are accurate and there aren't any duplicate transactions:

You can always get back to me if you have questions or other concerns about adding your latest bank transactions in QBO or anything else, by leaving a reply below. I'm always here to assist. You have a good one.

No, I'm not going to delete all my rules and start again, to test a bug in the software. I don't have that sort of time.

Clowns. This is what you get for a company that outsources to Indians. You cant even post on these forums without going to incognito mode on browser because they are so incompetent to update anything. I had a rep (outsourced Indian) told me it would cost $35k per year for a 200 tax return package.  Clueless. Went to CCH instead
