Why do I have different quantity balance between inventory valuation summary vs inventory valuation detail report?

Hi there, @JcLim.

One of the possible reasons that can cause the quantity to be unequal on both reports is the reporting period. Thus, we can verify this section in the QuickBooks Online (QBO) company file.

Here’s how you can do that:

  1. Go to the Reporting menu and locate the Inventory Valuation Summary or the Inventory Valuation Detail report.
  2. Click the Customize button.
  3. In the General drop-down, set the dates correctly in the Report period.
  4. Lastly, click the Run report.

If the same issue persists, I recommend performing troubleshooting steps that eliminate common errors that hinder the application from performing swiftly. We can carry out the instructions in a private/incognito window. Since the private window won't save any history, it's a useful tool for finding browser-related issues. The keyboard shortcuts are as follows:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: press Command + Shift + N

If a private browser shows the quantity correctly, switch back to your default browser and delete its cache. The best way to give your browser a fresh start is to clear the cache or cookies. If not, using one of the supported browsers can also be a smart choice.

Additionally, you can learn to customise your report as well as export this into an Excel or PDF file to get a copy of it.
