Converting from Desktop to online. who is doing it at present and are they quicker than 2 weeks?

Hi there.

If you have QuickBooks Online Essentials or QuickBooks Online Plus, you can migrate data from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online using MMC Converter as the accounting conversion service. You must also work directly with MMC Convert to convert and move your Desktop data to Online. Here's an article for more details: Moving from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

These are the following data that MMC are able to convert into QuickBooks Online:'

  • Chart of Accounts
  • Customer Details
  • Supplier Details
  • Opening Account Balances
  • Aged Receivables
  • Aged Payables
  • Bank Transactions (Includes Invoice payments, Bill payments, and other Bank Transactions)
  • Credit Card (converted as QuickBooks Online Bank Accounts)
  • Invoices and Credit Notes
  • Bills
  • Manual Journals

Also, most of the time conversion process will take three (3) to five (5) business days from the time they receive the data. But this will still depend on the accounting conversion service.

I've included a couple of resources for frequently asked questions that certainly will address your other concerns about migrating data to QuickBooks Online:

I'll be around if you still have follow-up questions about managing data in QuickBooks. I'll be here to help.

Why are we not told that it will cost money to move from QBDT to QBOL. I already have 1 QBOL account and have signed up for my second account.
Who is the best to use to move my existing QBDT to QBOL

Hello, MBR1959.

Thanks for joining this thread. I'm here to share information about moving your data from QBDT to QBO.

We have formed a collaboration with MMC Convert to assist you in transferring your data from QBDT to QBO by utilizing their accounting software conversion services. And since this is a third-party service, there will be a monetary charge associated with it.

You can refer to MMC Convert South Africa for more details.

I'm also adding this article that answers some frequently asked questions (FAQs) about QBO migration for future reference: Import from QuickBooks Desktop and other software to QuickBooks Online.

Please let me know if you have follow-up questions about this or anything else. I'm always here to assist. Take care.

@MBR1959

I would recommend keeping your historical data in QB Desktop and starting from scratch in QB Online to lower your conversion costs. You can use the trial version of QB Desktop for good if needed.

I have tried this. Total targets is 180 548.

When I select 'Export company file to Quickbooks Online', I get this message. 'For Security, Intuit does not support this browser or browser version. I have tried all the browsers recommended.

Where to from here?

@MBR1959

They intentionally disabled the built-in conversion tool on QB Desktop UK version. That's why you encountered that error message. You must purchase a third-party service to convert your data. Keeping your historical data in QB Desktop is the cheapest option as I mentioned earlier.

Hi there, @MBR1959.  I completely understand how hard it must be when you encounter errors that prevent you from completing tasks. I want to express my sincere appreciation for your efforts in trying to switch browsers to resolve the error message. Let me take a moment to provide you with some valuable information about QuickBooks Desktop South Africa.

While it is true that the error message you're getting is caused by an unsupported browser, I'd like to inform you that the option to export data from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online is no longer available. It is important to note that QuickBooks Desktop is no longer being offered in South Africa. This is the underlying reason why you are still unable to export your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online, despite your attempts to switch browsers. I understand that this may be disappointing news, but I wanted to make sure you have a clear understanding of the situation.

As mentioned by my colleague above, you can use a third-party application that can move your data which is the MMC Convert. On the other hand, you can consider another option which is to re-enter the transactions and lists manually in QuickBooks Online:

Additionally, I've included these helpful resources  that'll help you get started with QuickBooks Online, get to know your dashboard, set up your company, and other necessary things to do after signing up:

Please know that you're not alone in this and I'm all ears ready to back you up in case you need further assistance migrating your QuickBooks Desktop data to QuickBooks Online. Just leave a comment below and I'll get back to you. Keep safe.
