The ability to Edit (whether deleting column(s) not used or adding a column(s) that are) really makes for a more user friendly product.  Vendors want to see a listing of adjustments (if any), and sending the corrected "Bill" instead of making adjustments to an existing PO, is the cleanest way to make that happen.

Not sure what the difficulty is in making the "Bill" template customizable like all the others; e.g; Invoices, Packing lists, Sales Orders, Sales Receipts, etc.  

These updates should be available on both Desktop and online versions.

Really wish we could add columns to the Receipts/Bill Entry Screen. We would like to see our "ITEM" Number and the "MPN" on the Item Receipts/Bill Screen because when an invoice only has the Vendor's Part Number and not our Item Number, it is very difficult to connect the two when my Accounts Payable person is trying to enter the receipt.

Is there an update on the adding a custom field on a bill? QBO doesn't have Units of Measure and the only way I can think to add that manually, is via the custom field. Please let me know if this is available for South Africa. Thanks

An option to add units of measurements in QuickBooks is currently unavailable in QuickBooks Online. You can send feedback directly to our Product Developer Team. This way, we can improve your experience while using QuickBooks Online.

 

To submit feedback:

 

  1. Go to the Gear Icon.
  2. Choose the option Feedback
  3. Enter your suggestions.
  4. Then, select Next

Actually, there is a way to add a custom column to the "Bill" in Quickbooks.

Add an item (type = other charge) Item name Lot # (Or any name of choice)

Check the box to the left: This Item is used in assemblies or is a reimbursable charge

Assign an expense acct on the left side, Assign a revenue acct on the right side.

Select Custom Fields, (4th option down; top right).

Another window will open, select define and add [Lot #] as the label name, check use, 

and select if you want it REQUIRED for transactions and lists.

Now go to vendors and open the window to enter a bill.

Move your mouse in the blank area of a column and right click for a submenu.

Select customize columns, and select the [Lot#] defined field.

Now you can add a lot# on each line item of the bill.

 

Recommendation: Do not use required on transactions unless you want a Lot # on every line item of EVERY bill.

 

Hope this helps those who want to add a custom field to Bills in Quickbooks.

*Custom fields are limited depending on what version of Quickbooks use are using*

Custom fields on a bill would be very helpful. I currently have to use the memo/description fields and take the information to excel in order to pull out the information I need. It takes hours to do something that could take minutes. Any update on adding custom fields to bills?

For now, the ability to add custom fields to bills is unavailable. In the meantime, you can continue using the memo field to add any useful information about your transaction. You'll want to go to our Customer Feedback page to check if a request has already been submitted. If not, you can send feedback to let our product team know how this feature helps your business.  Normally, implementing these requests will depend on the number of votes that we received.

Before anything else, can you please confirm if you're using QuickBooks Online or Desktop? This will help me find more options for you.

 

If you're using QuickBooks Online, the option to customize bill templates is not yet available in the system. Only sales forms templates can be edited for now. 

 

For now, you can use third-party billing solutions that allows modifying templates for QBO entries. Visit this page to find apps that works for you: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/app/apps/home/

 

Please know that the changes in the program are released based on several factors, so we welcome product suggestions to help improve our products and services. We're unable to provide the turnaround time on when new features are released in QuickBooks since they are handled by the Developers Team.

 

While the feature you're looking for is not yet available in the program, I encourage you to add a product suggestion for our developers.

We have desktop and would like to know if it's possible to add custom fields to the Bill template.

 

This should be a feature available if not already.  Looks like a lot of people have the same request.

I can see how difficult this has been, @eb31. I know how beneficial it is to have an option to add custom fields to the bill template in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). And I'm here to provide information about this.

 

In QBDT, you can only create custom fields for the name lists in your company (customer, vendor, employee), product, and service details. Then, later add it to your sales forms and reports. The option to add one to a bill template is currently unavailable.

 

As a workaround, you can use the Memo and Description fields to add additional details in the Bill form. Please refer to the screenshot for visual reference: 

 

 

On the other hand, you can use third-party apps that help you customise the bill template. For a list of QBDT compatible apps, feel free to visit this site: Apps for QuickBooks Desktop.

As important as adding or using custom fields.. also nice to remove fields and columns users don't use.. like in your Screen shot example.. we don't use the columns; Class, Customer/job, nor Billable?...  So why do I have to re-size the screen every time I'm viewing it?  Why can't I just remove them via "Customize Columns"?

If you're using QuickBooks Online, the option to customize bill templates is unavailable in the program. Only sales form templates can be edited or customised. With this said, I'd recommend sending this request straight to our product engineers through feedback. Sharing features and options that you would like implemented is how our engineers look for new product updates. Here's how: 

  1. Go to the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Select Feedback.
  3. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
  4. Then select Next to submit feedback.

 

You'll want to check for a third-party application that can help you with this one. You can check out the apps that are compatible with QuickBooks at this link: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/app/apps/home/. We can also do it in QBO by following the steps below:

  1. Go to Apps on the left side menu.
  2. Search for the app in the Find apps to streamline your work field.
  3. Look for the app that supports the Batch Invoicing feature.

This thread has persisted for years with the same suggestions: use the memo field, a third-party add-on, and/or send the request to the Intuit product engineers. I use the memo field as a workaround (my need is simple), the third-party idea seems absurd, the the send-request is a joke.

 

The Intuit response is always the same; "I can see why this would be valuable..."  I wish y'all would just explain, technically, why it's not a workable idea from your point of view, or be totally honest and tell us to buzz off.

At this moment, the option to add custom fields to the bill template is unavailable in QuickBooks Online. I recognize how convenient this feature is in managing vendor forms. You may consider using the memo or description field as a workaround to enter the needed info.

Are we ever going to be able to customize Bill template? Yes or no would suffice. This question has persisted for years with no definitive answer from QB team.

QuickBooks Online (QBO) uses a default bill template. Thus, customizing the Bill template is not an option. We can only customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts and add custom fields to them.

 

We might want to use the Memo field or the Description column to add some notes to the transaction.

 

While the option is not yet available, I suggest letting our product developers know about your request by sending feedback. I'll show you how.

 

  1. Go to the Gear icon at the top and then select Feedback.
  2. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
  3. Click Next to submit.

So, generic answer is the key from team members and moderators. I do not have QBO. I have QBD. Regardless, of which one I have this feature has been requested for many years by so many users and it looks like it will be continuously ignored from Intuit.
