Yes, you're right. You can add a space or field for your reference number inside your invoices in QuickBooks Online (QBO). We have this feature called custom fields, and it lets you add another box or field where you can enter details to add more information to your sales forms. But before anything else, please know that if you're using QBO Plus or Essential, you are limited to 3 custom fields.

On the other hand, please know that the payment due by the customer will depend only on the date you've added to your invoice. That said, the option you're trying to access isn't possible.
