Hi there, eileen-mckechnie.
I can see how helpful it would be to add a custom field on the line item. That being said, I'll take note of this idea.
If you want to add a serial number on the item, you can use the Description field on the Product/Service information page. Let me guide you how:
Afterward, we can run the Product/Service List report to display all the serial numbers of the items.
Let me know if there's anything that I can help. Keep safe!
Hi Adrian,
Thank you for your reply.
Each Item Line on the invoice requires serial / license key number.
Item is created and different customer will buy this product but for each customer a different license key or in case of hardware serial number will be given. So the one item number (product) "[removed]" will be sold to "Robert" and he gets the invoice for "[removed]" and we would like to link his license key to that product "item number" order item and we will process and give each customer their own License Key.
If they buy different product or two of one product for the customer:
"0000000" Software 1 R0.00 License Key number
"0000000" Software 1 R0.00 License Key number
"0001001" Hardware 1 R0.00 Serial Number
I hope you could understand what I am trying to say.
1. How can we add a custom field in the line item of an invoice so that we can type it in the line item? This would be the ideal thing as me might sell 3 of the same products or different products to have them on line items. We were thinking to use more in the lines of the class field that we do not use - to create a custom field?
2. If we cannot where could we, on the invoice, type in the serial number to be able to track it?
Thank you
Kind regards
Eileen Mckechnie
Thanks for getting back to us, @eileen-mckechnie.
In QuickBooks Online (QBO), you can only add one serial number (SR) using the Description or the SKU field. The option to add a custom field for each line item is currently unavailable.
Since you need to include more than one SR of each item, the only way that I can think of is to create the items separately as a workaround. Then, instead of adding it on the Description or the SKU fields, you may enter next to the name (to avoid duplicate names).
I can see how having this option would be helpful for you, and I'll take note of this. In the meantime, I recommend visiting our Blog site.
