Why doesn't QuickBooks have a customer number field?

I tried the setting up of the Customer List first.

I did go and look at the Import Program and see it will have a regular fee if I continue using it.

Initially I can try it for free to see if it works.

Regards

Anton

Why doesn't QuickBooks have a customer number field?

So you have to think about using a primary key in a database?  Quick books would therefore benefit greatly from hiring ONE database administrator for your global team. Primary Keys are as basic as wheels on a car in a database.

Or.... is it that Primary keys are hidden from customers, and yet actually present for all customer data entries, for ease of searches and debugging from QuickBooks perspective. Benefitting you, and not us.

I don't mean to be cheeky, it's not my preference. But it is a significant blunder to use anything else as a primary key, other than a correct primary key sequencing convention.

I don't want to print invoices and have a customers primary key visible on their invoice, advertising that we are using QuickBooks Online, as we have to stuff the primary key into another field and concatenate this data it into the business name data. And no... notes is not a field one can use to import.

Just do things properly? Hire a database admin? makes sense right?

Why doesn't QuickBooks have a customer number field?

Sadly no word yet. I did follow the included instructions to make this feature request through the correct submission channel. Have not heard back from anyone yet.

Still hard to believe...  a feature request to get a primary key in the database.....  sorry but why? why? Why? do I have to ask for this?

Why doesn't QuickBooks have a customer number field?

you are not answering the question.  The question is WHY QBO won't create a customer account number field in the "new customer" form.   It doesn't belong in a Customer Name field or a Customer Display field.  It should have it's own field.  So WHY won't they do it.  There has to be a reason.

Why doesn't QuickBooks have a customer number field?

Having a customer account number field in the customer information section of QuickBooks Online (QBO) is essential for your business, CPI Accounting. Let me address this for you.

QBO's streamlined interface aims to create an easy user experience by having fewer fields. This design makes the software more accessible, especially for users who find additional fields overwhelming.

Your insights about how the account number field could enhance workflow and improve functionality are valuable. I recommend sending feedback to our product engineers. They consistently integrate new features, fine-tune interfaces, and make enhancements based on user suggestions.

Here's how:

  1. Click on the Gear icon.
  2. Select Feedback.
  3. Enter your suggestion and click Submit Feedback.

In the meantime, if you have QBO Plus and Essentials, you can create custom fields on your sales forms but not on your customers' profiles. If you have QBO Advanced, you can add custom fields to various areas of your account, including customer profiles.

Additionally, you can refer to this article on personalizing forms and including custom fields and other information in QuickBooks: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

Please don't hesitate to reply if you have further questions or concerns about adding a field in the customer information in QBO. We're here to help.

Why doesn't QuickBooks have a customer number field?

Hi. On the one hand, you are trying to make the interface simpler for less sophisticated users. but on the other hand, you discontinued QBD and are pushing people to QBO. Adding a Customer # field as in QBD is most definitely not confusing for anyone. In my tech environment, this is the way that we link customers between systems.

Dumb, dumb, dumb, intuit. You're basically asking people to investigate other platforms vs. just adding the field.
