Following a transfer from QB Desktop to QB Online, how do I account for VAT Exceptions prior to the VAT start date in QBO?

We moved from QB Desktop to QBO in June 2020. Our May VAT was filed from QB Desktop, and duplicated in QB Online. However, the VAT Exceptions from May in QB Desktop were not reflected as exceptions in QB Online. How do I correct for this in QB Online?

Hello, DeanRedel.

I hope you're doing well these days. I can definitely point you in the right direction to correct your VAT exceptions in QuickBooks Online.

The exceptions might not have been included during the migration (and there could be other adjustments, too). Entering the transactions or adjusting the amounts manually can potentially mess up the books and VAT accounting. To prevent this, I'd recommend contacting our QuickBooks Online support.

They have the tools to adjust the VAT exceptions accordingly. They'll also ensure your VAT filings in QuickBooks Online are correct moving forward. To reach them:

  1. Click the Help icon.
  2. In the QB Assistant chatbox, type "Talk to a human."
  3. Click the Contact Support Team option, then click the link.
  4. In the box, enter something like "Correct VAT after Desktop migration."
  5. Hit Let's talk.
  6. Choose Start an email
