Can the bank accounts be deleted as I think I may need to start over with them?

I’ll be here to share some information about deleting a bank account in QuickBooks Online, @mvisser448-gmail.

In QuickBooks, you can only make the account inactive. If there are transactions or balances involved, QuickBooks will make a journal entry to zero them out. Therefore, the account's transactions will remain on your records and have an impact on your reports.

Since you haven’t done any activity with your bank account, here’s how you can disconnect it:

  1. On the left pane, select Banking.
  2. Tap the Banking tab.
  3. Choose the tile for the bank account you want to disconnect.
  4. Tap the pencil icon and select Edit account info.
  5. Tick the Disconnect this account on save checkbox.
  6. Hit Save and Close.

Here’s an article you can visit in case you want to connect an account to QuickBooks Online. This will allow your transactions to be automatically downloaded.

Can the bank accounts be deleted as I think I may need to start over with them?

I can help you with that, @Georgie2. Let's go through the process of getting your deleted transactions back to QuickBooks Online.

The QuickBooks balance is the total balance of all bank transactions that you’ve added or matched to QuickBooks. While the bank balance is your bank's actual balance from the last bank feed update. Since you’ve deleted transactions, that’s why your balances don’t match.

We’re unable to restore deleted transactions. Don’t worry, you have the option to recreate the transaction manually. We can use the Audit Log to see deleted transactions. Then, take note of the information so you can re-enter them in your QuickBooks account.

Here's how to locate and re-enter deleted transaction:

  1. Proceed to Settings ⚙.
  2. Choose Audit Log.
  3. From the Filter ▼ dropdown menu, select the appropriate user, date, and event(s).
  4. Click Apply.
  5. Locate the deleted transaction.
  6. Under the History column, click View.
  7. All the information needed for the transaction can be found under the Event column.
  8. Using the information from the Audit log, you can re-enter the transaction with its original transaction date.

You can also import the missing bank transactions into the program via .CSV file. See this article for the complete details: Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online.

Depending on the factor that’s mentioned above, there are different steps to fix your issue. Here’s an article on the steps to fix or adjust these factors: How to Fix Differences Between QuickBooks Balance and Bank Balance.
